3 Changes You Must Make to Follow Your Dreams

Tags:

In today’s busy world, it’s easy to lose sight of what’s truly important. We push our dreams to the side and settle for a life where we’re merely keeping up with everyday demands. And many of us don’t pursue them because we are as afraid to succeed as we are to fail. So what can we do to change this if we really want to stop putting our dreams on hold?

1. Change our mindset from fear to trust.

To realize our dreams, we have to change our mindset from one that’s fear-based (where we imagine all the reasons why things can’t happen) to one that’s trust-based, in which we have faith in all the reasons why they can. Shifting our mindset helps us focus more on opportunities and possibilities than on obstacles and limitations. This cultivates the ground for our dreams to take root and provides them with nutrients they need to blossom.

2. Change who we listen to and believe in.

To reach our dreams, we have to learn to listen to and heed the messages of the internal and external champions in our lives, rather than the voices of our inner critic and of the naysayers that try and convince us we aren’t worthy of achieving them. Our inner champion is the part of us that knows and believes in our true capabilities; our inner critic is the part of our psyche that causes us to constantly doubt ourselves. We have the choice to pick which of those characters we will listen to, spend our time with, and where we will focus our energy — so it’s important to make good choices and surround ourselves with people who build us up, rather than those who seek to bring us down.

3. Change what we practice.

What we practice repeatedly becomes our habits, and our habits create our destiny. We only have 24 hours in each day, so we have to choose where we’ll focus our energy. Will we focus it on those things that move us towards fulfilling our dreams or on those things that move us away from them? If your dream is to be a writer, you have to practice writing. If your dream is be a great teacher, you have to practice mastering teaching. If we want to manifest our dreams, then we have to follow our inner direction and vision, believe that we are worthy to achieve our dreams, and then have the discipline to take the actions necessary to achieve them.
