Last Friday, Shana Pacheco was driving with her children when she got into a car wreck that forced their vehicle to the side of the road. When the ambulances arrived, they were quick to grab Pacheco and her two-year-old daughter because they had the most visible injuries. The firefighters on the scene were following protocol by placing an oxygen mask onto Pacheco's face, however, the sight was extremely unsettling to her four-year-old son, Lucas.
What happened next was so incredibly sweet and, luckily, Steffani Blair, a nurse and driver passing by the scene, caught the touching moment on camera. Blair posted a picture to Facebook explaining that, upon seeing young Lucas in emotional distress, one of the firemen took the time to calm him down. The fireman, Russell Whaley, kept Lucas distracted by reading to him, while the entire crew stayed at the scene until Pacheco's husband arrived.

According to DailyMail.com, Battalion Chief Keith Welch said, "That's part of our job, a lot of times we're dealing with emotional needs. It's not just putting out a fire, or putting a Band-Aid on a wound. I'm proud of our guys for doing that."
Blair took the time to commend the service the Pachecos received from the firefighters that day. In her Facebook post, Blair said, "Be kind to our first responders, they have a tough job, and they do it EXCEPTIONALLY well. Grateful to have witnessed this sweet tender mercy today."
Pacheco and her daughter thankfully escaped the crash with minor injuries, such as seat belt burns, and she was pleased to have been assisted by such a caring team of firefighters. We can't blame her --this team certainly went the extra mile to take care of this family!
