Mom Kristen Hiebert only had one thing on her mind when she was in a terrible car accident one freezing cold night--protecting her daughter.
Her car skidded off a rural road and down an embankment. Unable to get help that night, she and her 4-year-old named Avery were forced to spend several hours in darkness, where the temperatures dropped below negative 13 degrees. Though Kristen developed frostbite, she was determined to keep her daughter safe, and she did.
She saved her daughter by simply lying on top of her to keep her warm, until help finally arrived for both of them.
They are both now in recovery at the hospital. Though Kristen has a few broken bones along with the frostbite, Avery miraculously only has scrapes and frostbite on one foot. Kristen's friend, Morgan Campbell started a GoFundMe page for her to assist in the recovery of the family and the goal has already been surpassed. Campbell called her friend a hero.
"She’s amazing," she said. "That is the power of a mother’s love."
