Who says that when you're older you should slow down in life?
Norma is 90 years old and proving that life should be experienced at any age. Now with such a positive outlook, things weren't looking so great for her last year. In 2015 Norma unfortunately lost her husband, Leo, of 67 years and in the same week she was told she had a large cancerous mass in her uterus. Instead of following doctor's orders to begin cancer treatment and undergo major surgery, this woman had other plans.
She left the hospital and said goodbye to her friends at her nursing home. With her family in tow she headed out on the open road in an RV camper. For the past six months they've been traveling across the country visiting national parks and taking in the scenery.
“As doctors, we see what cancer treatment looks like everyday,” one of Norma’s doctors told GoodNewsNetwork. “ICU, nursing homes, awful side effects and honestly, there is no guarantee she will survive the initial surgery to remove the mass. [She is] doing exactly what I would do in this situation.”
Norma has miraculously not felt any pain from her cancer and she believes she could be going into remission. Her adventurous spirit has been well-received on Facebook with more than 5,000 followers on her page. She's happy that she can inspire others to be optimistic about life.
Her final piece of advice: "Just keep on going every day, that's about it."
