When 12-year-old Darci Lynne Farmer walked confidently onto the America's Got Talent stage with a puppet so huge it was half her size, the audience knew that they would be in for a treat. After all, not only was the blonde Oklahoma girl totally adorable, but her oversize puppet nearly guaranteed that things were about to get funny.
What the viewers and the judges didn't expect, though, was to have the wind knocked right out of them from such a breathtaking performance.
As can be expected, Darci is an aspiring ventriloquist. After an impressive introduction to her puppet, named Petunia, she explained her passion to the judges.
"I would really like to keep ventriloquism alive because it's not common," Darci said.
Even less common? Belting out the beautiful notes of a song while performing ventriloquism. But that's exactly what she did, after just speaking a few lines through Petunia.
As soon as the puppet opened its mouth and began to "sing," everyone's jaws in the audience seemed to collectively drop. Not only was this little girl hitting every note perfectly, she was doing so with her lips seeming to be almost completely closed.
See for yourself and you'll completely understand why she got a standing ovation once she was done. Even notoriously tough judge Simon Cowell stood up, and later called the act "unforgettable!"
Once the applause settled, judge Mel B was so impressed with her job well done that she gave her a "golden buzzer," which instantly sent her through to the live shows. But the best part of all might be the little girl's humble and sweet reaction to her success, as she cried tears of joy. Did you see the way her mother hugged her? There's no question that she should be so proud!
