Looking for some natural anti-aging beauty products? To improve your skin and improve its resilience, look for products formulated with desert-based ingredients. These natural beautifiers thrive in some of the hottest climates around, making them the perfect addition to any anti-aging beauty routine. Keep scrolling for five of our favorite anti-aging desert beauty ingredients (and products to match!)

Speed Hair Growth with Aloe

The desert plant’s hydrating compounds and nourishing minerals have been proven to boost hair growth, condition strands and reduce fallout-causing dandruff! Mix with moisturizing coconut oil for volume-inducing shine.

TRY IT! Combine the gel from one aloe leaf (found in most grocery stores) with 1 Tbs. of coconut oil ($13.99, Amazon). Apply to dry hair from roots to ends. Let sit for 20 minutes, then rinse.

A recent study found that sunlight can calm eczema! It triggers the release of a compound in the skin that reduces inflammation related to the dry skin condition

Soften Parched Patches with Jojoba

Native to deserts in Arizona and Mexico, the jojoba plant produces oil that mimics skin’s natural oil to restore moisture fast. It’s also rich in vitamin E, which repairs damaged cells for healthy skin that’s smooth to the touch.

TRY IT! Post-shower (when pores are most receptible to hydration), rub a nickel-size amount of oil, like Aura Cacia Jojoba Skin Care Oil, ($13.18, Amazon) onto dry skin.

Firm Crepey Skin with Prickly Pear

Derived from the prickly pear cactus, this potent oil contains amino acids that boost collagen production and cell turnover to smooth skin creases, says Robin McDonald, celebrity aesthetician and founder of KINDri Skin Care. Even better? Antioxidants in the oil protect skin from UV rays to help prevent future wrinkling.

TRY IT! Rub a pea-size amount of prickly pear serum (like Sia Botanics Prickly Pear Seed Serum, $18, SiaBotanics.com; use code WW40 for 40% off at checkout) onto wrinkly areas.

Nix Bacne with Red Clay

“Red clay, abundant in arid areas like Morrocco, acts like a magnet, drawing breakout-triggering dirt, oil and toxins out of the skin,” says McDonald. Combine it with apple cider vinegar (its acetic acid helps unclog pores) to speed results.

TRY IT! In a non-metal bowl, mix 1 Tbs. of red clay, like Ancient Earth Secrets Moroccan Red Clay, ($5.99, The Vitamin Shoppe), 1 tsp. of apple cider vinegar and 2 tsp. of water. Apply to blemishes and let sit for 15 minutes; rinse.

Heal Rashes with Juniper Berry

Grown primarily in the dry Southwest region of the U.S., the antiinflammatory and antiseptic berry’s oil calms inflammation, kills infection and soothes irritation. Pair with chamomile (it constricts blood vessels to nix redness) for a clearer complexion—stat!

TRY IT! In a spray bottle, add 1 cup of cold chamomile tea and 6 drops of juniper berry oil, like Plant Therapy Juniper Berry Essential Oil ($9.95, Amazon). Spritz on dry skin.
