Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Talk About Archie’s First Day in South Africa
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have touched down in South Africa with four-month-old Archie Harrison in tow. While we’re yet to officially see the tiny tot, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have already made two appearances on the first day of their royal tour.
And of course, as any new parents would, the couple have spoken about their little boy on several occasions throughout the day.
During a walkabout, the royals were asked by Somaya Ebrahim, 81, where Archie was, and the couple responded by telling him he was sleeping.
Prince Harry then told another member of the crowd that the long flight was very tiring for the little one and said, “He’s not grouchy, just exhausted.”
The Duke also revealed that during their flight, Archie was mesmerized by Table Mountain, a local landmark.
“He was staring out the window as we flew in.. looking at Table Mountain,” a report from Hello! said.
After the flight, Archie was pictured in his mother’s arms as they left the airport, sporting a gorgeous pompom beanie.

While the couple had no official welcome at the airport, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex left Archie behind and headed to a Justice Desk initiative in Nyanga township, Cape Town. Here they joined in with a group of dancers, where Meghan held hands with 23-year-old Lilitha Mazana.

“Meghan’s a good dancer. She’s very nice. Her skills were fantastic. I’ve been dancing for ten years,” she told reporters after the performance.
To wind up the first day of the royal tour, the young couple then visited the District Six Museum, which honors the thousands forced to leave their homes during the apartheid era.
And according to 74-year-old Noor Ebrahim, who told the royals the story of the neighborhood, it was very special spot for the visit to take place.
“We’ve had so many prime ministers and presidents here, people like the Obama’s, but that was the best visit ever,” he told reporters.
“They were very, very friendly and they mixed with people and that made this visit so special.
“They were very down to earth — I loved both of them. I told them it was an honor having them here. I even talked to Harry about the rugby and told him I hope England wins the World Cup — he was surprised I am supporting them. It was a real pleasure to have them here.”
For the occasion, Meghan, forever the fashionista, had an outfit change, and it’s one we’ve all seen before — her blue Veronica Beard dress. The last time we saw Meghan in the “Cary” dress was in Tonga during their whirlwind royal tour in October last year, just after the couple had announced that she was pregnant. This time, she paired the outfit with black lace-up espadrilles by Castañer, which she also wore to an earlier engagement with the black-and-white wrap dress by Mayamiko.
Their day will finish with a cooking activity alongside former residents of District Six, where in the 1970s over 60,000 people were forcibly removed during the apartheid regime.
On their official Instagram account, Sussex Royal, it was revealed that the couple “were treated to food cooked by local women that showcased the wonderful variety of recipes — and the importance of cooking to bring communities together — a topic she feels strongly about (just like Together, the cookbook from the women of The Hubb Community Kitchen which she supported this time last year).”
