Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Take a Modern Approach to Their First Royal Tour with Baby Archie

Tags:

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are known for their slightly less traditional approach to their royal duties compared to other family members. So, it’s no surprise the couple is taking a progressive approach to their first royal tour with son, Archie, as they head to Africa.

Before jetting off to the continent, Harry and Meghan have embraced social media in a way no royal has done before — by testing their fans.

Posting to Stories on their official Instagram account, Sussex Royal, over the weekend, the couple decided to quiz their followers about the history of the Royal Family. “As we countdown to the official Southern African tour, we wanted to test you on some Royal Family history,” the first message read.

The quiz then went on to ask about how old Harry was when he first visited Africa to which year Meghan became Vice President of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust.

The tour will be a milestone for baby Archie as it will be his first official tour with his parents, who just returned to the UK from Italy to pick up their son after attending the wedding of Misha Nonoo.

On September 6, Harry and Meghan shared details of their Africa tour on Instagram. “In just two weeks, Their Royal Highnesses will embark on this official tour focusing on community, grassroots leadership, women’s and girls’ rights, mental health, HIV/AIDS and the environment,” a statement on the Sussex Royal account read.

“This program has been many months in the making, and The Duke and Duchess are eager to focus their energies on the great work being done in Southern Africa.”

The tour will also include a meeting with Archbishop Desmond Tutu, a South African Anglican cleric and theologian who is famed for his anti-apartheid work. They will also join “Waves for Change” on Monwabisi Beach.

According to Hello! magazine, it’s not entirely clear at which engagements we’ll be able to see baby Archie, but the new parents definitely hope to include him in parts of the program.

“It’s difficult to schedule. He’s five months old. But they hope to,” a source revealed to the publication.
