Find Out If Glossier’s New Serum and Oil Hybrid Lives Up to the Hype

Few beauty brands can spark new product launch excitement quite like Glossier. Beloved by everyone from Chrissy Teigen and Beyoncé to beauty bloggers the world over, the five-year-old beauty company has a cult-like following eagerly awaiting its every release. That loyalty paid off on Monday, with the launch of the brand’s Futuredew ($24, Glossier): an oil and serum hybrid that promises to capture the same “dewy sheen” you’d get from applying these products.

I was sent a bottle of this supposed miracle product to try, and, like any good commerce editor, I approached it with a healthy dose of skepticism. After all, there’s not a skincare product on the market that doesn’t promise to give you the glow of a lifetime.

Right from the start, however, I was surprised by the contents of this pinkish holographic bottle. Rather than the slick, oily consistency I was expecting, it yielded a mixture that appeared like a very light foundation, but that rubs in clear on all skin tones.

Futuredew is chock-full of nourishing oils, including jojoba (to fight inflammation), grapeseed (which has free-radical fighting vitamin E and crucial omega-3 fatty acids), rosehip (to soften and hydrate), and evening primrose (to moisturize and increase skin’s elasticity). It’s also packed with fruit extract evodia rutaecarpa, which increases brightness, plant-based sugarcane squalene for extra moisture, and light-reflecting minerals.

The result? A hydrating, but not greasy, pick-me-up that’s meant to give off a pure megawatt shine when applied as the last step in your skincare routine before makeup. While I didn’t exactly see the “increased radiance” that 100 percent of users claimed to see after use in a clinical study upon application, according to the Glossier website, my skin did feel different.

After applying just one pump, my face felt completely hydrated and butter smooth to the touch. It also felt protected — almost like I had placed a shield akin to a primer between my skin and the makeup to come. What’s more, it had a gentle, calming effect due to its light, earthy scent.

This blend is also hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested, cruelty free, vegan, and non-comedogenic (phew!), so it’s suitable for all skin types.

While two full pumps (Glossier’s recommended amount) felt a bit too heavy for me for a daytime look under makeup, I tested its 12-hour moisture claim at bedtime and found it to hold up — I didn’t wake up feeling dry in the slightest.

All in all, I think this it’s earned a permanent spot in my skincare rotation thanks to the much-needed moisture boost it provided under my makeup. In fact, I’d go as far to say that in warmer months, it could even be a good replacement for your regular moisturizer. I also like it as a quick mid-day skin pick-me-up, just because. It won’t replace your highlighter, but it will make your complexion feel ultra-smooth and keep you hydrated as you go about your day.

I guess it’s official — I just may be a Glossier convert, eagerly awaiting its next big beauty product!
