No one wants their wedding ceremony to be interrupted, especially not by a crying baby. But when this happened to Christina Torino-Benton, she responded in a surprising way--and now the whole Internet can't stop talking about it!
Christina was getting married to her now-husband Danny, who was her first crush and whom she has known since childhood, in a beautiful church ceremony in Quebec. Suddenly, their 9-month-old daughter, Gemma, loudly let everyone in the room know that she was hungry in the way only babies can. That's when she looked over to her husband, and simply said, "It's happening." Then, she began to breastfeed her baby girl.
While there are many people who try to shame women for breastfeeding in public, Christina was fortunately surrounded by loved ones who would never judge her for caring for her daughter. Her husband has always been hugely supportive of her, the guests were entirely unfazed by and accepting of Christina's actions, and even the priest continued the ceremony without even the slightest pause.
After the wedding, Christina shared a post to the Facebook group Breastfeeding Mama Talk to celebrate her brave decision. It says, "That moment when you're getting married and your baby gets hungry ;) feeling SO proud of myself! Fighting that good fight!"
Her story has since gone viral, and has received outpourings of support from fellow mommies and brides who hope to destigmatize breastfeeding by sharing their stories as well.
“Breastfeeding is so natural,” Christina told The Huffington Post. “It took me a while to become comfortable with nursing out in the open, but now it’s completely second nature and I wouldn’t have it any other way.” Isn't Gemma so lucky to have such an amazing mom?
