By Far, the Best Elf on the Shelf Idea We’ve Ever Heard

Tags:

Love it or hate it, the Elf on the Shelf trend is here to stay. And while many parents think it’s a fun, creative way for their kids to count down to Christmas, some find the whole thing slightly over-the-top.

But we’re sure everybody can get behind the amazing idea that one mom came up with for her family’s Elf on the Shelf, which was posted on Facebook and has been shared thousands of times since. Instead of having her kids simply look for the elf each morning (the game typically includes the parents hiding the elf in a different spot around the house each day, for the children to find), she is also asking her kids to do something special each day.

“Each night, if you could pick one toy that you no longer need and place it next to me, I’ll take it back to the North Pole,” so that Santa can fix it up for other kids to love, the letter reads. We imagine that the mom is planning to donate her kids’ old toys, which is a fantastic idea, especially this time of year. Not to mention, it’s a pretty clever way to help declutter the house before the holidays arrive and usher in a whole new slew of presents, is it not?

Sounds like brilliant parenting at its very best!
