Guinness World Records
What an amazing birthday present for Dolly Parton! Just before her 72nd birthday, the legendary country singer picked up two Guinness World Records. Like many awards the superstar has picked up over the years, these two certificates are mighty impressive.
During a recent visit to Nashville, Guinness awarded Parton with the prestigious honors of the artist with the most hits on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart by a woman and the most decades with a Top 20 hit on that same chart. As if those certificates weren't impressive enough, Guinness also revealed that Parton is the only artist with Top 20 hits spanning six consecutive decades (from the 1960s to the 2010s), meaning she has now surpassed fellow country music icons Reba McEntire, George Jones, and even the "King," Elvis Presley.
The best part? Dolly Parton, staying true to her nature, was super humble and grateful to receive these certificates.
"To receive these two Guinness World Records is so great," Parton said in an exclusive interview with Guinness. "Joining so many wonderful singers and songwriters who have been honored this way feels so special to me. You never know when you start out with your work how it’s going to turn out, but to have these two world records makes me feel very humbled and blessed!"
From "Something Fishy" to "Jolene" to all her other hit songs, Parton has without question had an enormous influence on the music industry — and she's been especially inspiring to other women in country music. Truly a living legend, she'll no doubt continue to astound and impress us in the years to come.
Enjoy your latest accolades (and your birthday), Dolly! You absolutely deserve them.
