‘Dora the Dog Explorer’ Travels the World in Her Owner’s Backpack

Meet Dora, a multi-colored Jack Russell-Yorkshire terrier mix who loves to travel in her dog-mom’s book bag.

Her dog-mom, Cat Maguire, saw something extraordinary in Dora when the two very first met. At the time, Maguire, who’s originally from Ireland, was in the midst of getting over her sweet Lil, a black-and-tan Jack Russell that she’d had for 17 years. Despite Maguire’s devastation, something about Dora caught her eye.

“I noticed there were two male puppies eagerly looking for a home,” Maguire said. “I was disappointed, as I thought there was another girl in the litter, when suddenly this tiny puppy rushed down the stairs and into the kitchen of the house! Now, this one had personality, I thought. Turns out it was a girl, and the exact same coloring as my old girl, Lil.”

What a sweet surprise! Maguire said she immediately fell for Dora, and decided to take her home that very night.

“That night she slept with me, cuddled up in bed, and that’s how it has been since,” Maguire said.

As soon as Dora turned one, she and Maguire emigrated to the United States, where the duo spent the next nine months traveling.

“We did two cross country road trips and various others,” Maguire said. “Together we have been through hail and rain storms, evaded a tornado, late night skunk attacks, dog attacks, earthquakes, heatwaves, and snow storms. Dora has been to cities, towns, and national parks across the U.S. in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Utah, South Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Oregon to name a few!”

“She’s an avid hiker and we use Instagram for posting her photos of her travels and hikes,” Maguire continued. “A lot of people tell me how her photos bring a smile to their face and they get to experience places they have never been or may never have the opportunity to visit. She really is an explorer, and ‘Dora the Explorer’ was the perfect name for her.”

We couldn’t agree more! Check out Dora’s travels on Instagram.
