You might remember Jackie Kennedy Onassis for her sunglasses or that impeccable sense of fashion. But for many women, it was the former First Lady's remarkable poise that is truly unforgettable.
Jackie Kennedy may just have been graceful and poised from birth. The proof: A break-up letter she wrote when she was 17 to her then-boyfriend, a student at Harvard.
In the letter she wrote:
“I’ve always thought of being in love as being willing to do anything for the other person--starve to buy them bread and not mind living in Siberia with them--and I’ve always thought that every minute away from them would be hell--so looking at it that [way] I guess I’m not in love with you."
The letter was part of a set of 22 that she wrote to an anonymous gentleman when she was at Miss Porter's, a boarding school in Connecticut, a place she described as "prison." The letters were sold a few years ago to famed auction house Christie's for $134,000.
