If you're like us and love adorable animals, you've been following the journey of Fiona, a baby hippo who was born six weeks premature this past January. She captured the hearts of people around the world thanks to posts by the Cincinnati Zoo. She only weighed 29 pounds at birth, which is significantly less than the normal hippo birth weight of 55 to 100 pounds.
But now, at 1-year-old (Happy Birthday, Fiona!), Fiona is frolicking and thriving with her mom, Bibi, and her dad, Henry. She even has her own TV show and her own ice cream flavor, Chunky Chunky Hippo. Maybe it was a little too much ice cream that caused Fiona to have some gas.
Fiona was caught on camera releasing her flatulence. The Cincinnati Zoo posted the moment with the caption, "Fiona blowing bubbles on the other end." It's safe to say Fiona's toots are a lot cuter than ours.
As adorable as that is, passing passing gas isn't the only adorable thing Fiona can do!
Here she is showing her huge mouth.
Although Fiona is usually pretty quiet, keepers have heard occasional vocalizations from her including grunts around meal time and even a bellow from time to time in response to the adults' contact calls or to express excitement or frustration. #cincinnati #closeenoughtocare #cincinnatizoo #TeamFiona #fionafix #hippo
According to her, double chins are very in.
She enjoys long naps in the sun.
Nap time! Hippos are able to sleep both in and out of the water. They have the unique ability to sleep underwater and surface for air without waking up. Although Fiona is not demonstrating that ability during this nap, she does often snooze underwater. #TeamFiona #hippo #cincinnati #cincinnatizoo #closeenoughtocare #fionafix
And she also likes a game of hide and seek.
It's easy to see why we love watching Fiona grow up.
