Breathtaking Christmas Tree Is Made Entirely of Glass

David Cleveland

Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree, how lovely are your... glass pendants? Yes indeed. For one cascading glass Christmas tree in London, the lyrics to the famous song should be revised.

UK designer Lee Broom and global design brand Nude have proudly unveiled the delightful and festive sight on the 31st floor of The Shard building in London. Standing at nearly 30 feet in height, this breathtaking creation is composed of 245 hand-blown glass LED pendant lights floating in a formation that's not unlike the evergreen gracing your living room right now. In this case, the glass Christmas tree is a lovely addition to the contemporary British restaurant Aqua Shard on that floor.

As gorgeous as the glass Christmas tree is, it's not intended to be a permanent exhibition. In fact, all 245 are available to purchase for £150 (about $200) — and £100 (about $133) from the sale of each light will go to charity. The proceeds will be donated to the British Red Cross, but specifically to two fundraising programs — the UK Solidarity Fund, which raises funds for those affected by terrorism in the UK after the terror attacks in London and Manchester earlier this year, and the London Fire Relief Fund, which helps those in need after the fire at Grenfell Tower. They'll be delivered to the people who bought them in February 2018, after the whole tree has been disassembled.

While a glass Christmas tree isn't traditional in most homes, the spirit of giving back to other people certainly is — and that in and of itself makes this project even more beautiful.
