Rescue Dogs Are Getting Their Own Hallmark Special

Tags:

Every year, we rush to get in front of the TV to watch the Westminster Dog Show. Some of us go as far as hosting Westminster parties with snacks and bets. Basically, the dog show is our Super Bowl. (But what do you do when your cute rescue pooch is curled up beside you looking up at you with those big, cute eyes while you’re awwwing at all of the purebreds? Poor pup’s just a mutt who’s not eligible to become a TV star, even though he’s the star of your life.) Before this sob show gets any sadder, we’d like to inform you that there is now an American Rescue Dog Show!

Thanks to the Hallmark channel, you and your pooch can now enjoy a dog show that’s just as good, if not better, than the Westminster Dog Show. How’s that possible? Well, first of all, every dog in the 2018 American Rescue Dog Show is a former shelter pup. And instead of featuring stuffy titles like “Best in Show” and “Best in Sporting,” the American Rescue Dog Show will focus on lovable categories that celebrate our favorite down-to-earth doggie traits, such as “Best in Underbite,” “Best in Wiggle Butt,” and “Best in Kissing” among other cute titles. The only requirement to participate? The rescue must be spayed or neutered.

If you want to see the show, just flip your TV to the Hallmark channel on Monday, February 19 at 8 p.m.

“We are proud to honor rescue pets and raise awareness of how truly special these animals are,” said Bill Abbott, president and CEO of Crown Media Family Networks, in a press release. “There are beautiful animals available at local shelters and we encourage our viewers to choose adoption through our pet programming, which is at the heart of our brand.”

The heartfelt night will also include a $5,000 grant awarded to the rescue organization or society that saved each semi-finalist. And as for the overall winner? He or she will receive a $25,000 grant for their rescue, courtesy of the Petco Foundation.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, the 2018 American Rescue Dog Show will also provide viewers with the information they need to adopt their own lovable pooch in their area! How sweet is that?
