Isaac Avila, a 65-year-old who goes by the name "Chico," had been homeless in Miami for 10 years. It was only recently when he met someone from an organization who changed everything for him.
Gabby volunteers at Miracle Messages, a group that records and shares messages from homeless people who wish to be reunited with their loved ones. The group uploaded his message on YouTube, and before they knew it, they found his family.
"His mother didn't understand what the commotion was all about and couldn't understand what was being said, she only speaks Spanish," Gabby said. "However, she did know it was her son and when one of her children translated, she kept asking to replay and she kept kissing the screen."
His sister was immediately on the way to pick him up from Miami and have a real reunion back at home. And Avila couldn't be more grateful for how things turned out.
"They're a godsend. They are my heroes now; they are my heroes. They are my people now, my saints," Avila said.
