Despite the colorful clown mascot, when you think of McD’s, you think of the fries. Whether you’re an avid customer or someone who shuns the Golden Arches, there’s no denying that their signature side is delicious. That’s why we’re baffled that they didn’t expand their French fry eminence earlier.
That’s right, McDonald’s is testing sweet potato fries, and it could be the start of a big turn-around for the much maligned fast food giant. With the company’s sales surging for the first time in two years, it seems things are looking up for corporate and consumers.

In a tweet from their official Texas Panhandle Twitter account, McD’s dropped the sweet bomb on everyone this Wednesday. The orange spuds have been offered in several McDonald’s locations internationally, but never before within the U.S. A little less than 3 hours after the subtle announcement sparked widespread curiosity, McDonald’s released an official statement to Eater confirming that the fries “are being tested in some Create Your Taste test restaurants in Amarillo.”
We can only hope that Texans rally around this new menu development so the rest of us can finally try the fries ourselves.
