It seems the royal family is gearing up for another wedding! According to a new report, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are very close to getting engaged and might tie the knot "somewhere private and elope" in the near future.
Though the couple — who has been dating for 13 months — could exchange vows at Westminster Abbey, like so many royals before them, Harry, 32, and Meghan, 35, aren't keen on having a "showy wedding."
A source recently revealed to Us Weekly that Harry could pop the question to the Suits actress on her upcoming Aug. 4 birthday. Though August is the same month Harry lost his mother, Princess Diana, back in 1997, an engagement could make the usual tough time of year a bit better for the royal family.
"He feels getting engaged will lift that gloom forever because he will be able to associate August with something joyful," an insider told the entertainment news outlet. Another source suggested Harry might wait until fall to get down on one knee.
One thing is for sure — Harry and Meghan's royal romance is one for the books! "He wants to get married and have kids. He’s smitten," a source told Us Weekly of the couple. How sweet!
Of course, if Harry does propose to Meghan, he'll first need to get permission to marry the actress from his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth. According to a law first created in 1772, the monarch has the right to ban the marriage of any of his or her family members. Since then, that law has been repealed and become more relaxed, but the original mandate still applies to the first six people in line for the throne: Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Harry, and Prince Andrew.
Somehow, though, we're pretty the Queen already approves of the union.
