Queen Elizabeth Owns Corgis for Reasons Only Introverts Understand

Tags:

In many of her childhood photos, young Queen Elizabeth is photographed with her herd of corgis. To this day, she has maintained a strong love and affection for the breed, which first came about when her mother bought home Dookie, the family’s first corgi. It’s believed that Queen Elizabeth has owned over 30 corgis during a period of about 70 years, meaning her relationship with her beloved pets has lasted longer than her marriage to Prince Philip!

Now, most dog lovers would like to own as many pooches as possible, but Queen Elizabeth might hold the record as the biggest royal dog fanatic. And while she has a deep love for the long-bodied and stumpy-legged canines, the perks of owning a corgi—or any dog for that matter—may appeal to introverts everywhere (watch the video below to see why).

That’s not to say, of course, that that’s the only reason Queen Elizabeth has had so many corgis over the years. According to Vanity Fair, the Queen walks and feeds the dogs daily, which serves as a form of therapy for the 91-year-old. And while the Queen has stopped breeding corgis, she still has her last two survivors—Holly and Willow—to keep her company.

NEXT: Everyone knows Queen Elizabeth loves corgis, but you probably don’t know these other surprising facts!
