Trisha Yearwood Dedicates ‘Prizefighter’ to Cancer Survivor at Her Concert

Tags:

Country stars Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks were minding their own business, preparing for yet another successful performance on their joint tour. But then, a group of women totally changed their plans for the evening. And it’s all because of the signs they were holding.

Beverly Ellis, a country music fan who’s fighting her second battle with cancer, decided to attend the show with seven of her friends, who touted signs in support of their brave pal. One particular sign said, “Trisha, here’s your prizefighter,” with arrows pointing toward Ellis — a clever reference to Yearwood’s hit song “Prizefighter.” Meanwhile, Ellis, who beat breast cancer back in 2012 but is now battling liver cancer, had another sign that read, “Stage IV won’t stop my dance.”

As soon as a staff member spotted those signs, the ladies got upgraded from seats far in the back all the way up to the first and second row seats. But the night didn’t stop there.

Yearwood and Brooks took time to stop the show just to announce the special fan they had in the crowd to the whole audience, so they could cheer her on. Brooks said, “Introduce me to The Prizefighter.” And Ellis instantly knew who he was talking about, making her presence known. But nothing prepared her for Brooks putting his black cowboy hat on her head.

“When he took his hat off, I was kind of in disbelief, I was like, ‘No way!'” she said. “Is he going to give me his cowboy hat?”

Oh, boy, did he! And of course, Yearwood took the time out to sing “Prizefighter,” just for her.

The message of love didn’t end after the show was over, either. Ellis got to share the positivity and hope she received with fellow patients in the hospital. And it looks like they could’ve definitely used some!

What’s more, Yearwood specifically dedicated a special Instagram post for her, letting her know just how many people were rooting for her big win.

You can definitely count us among the cheerleaders!
