Called ‘Just a Nurse’ Once Too Often, Mom Shares Brutally Honest Facebook Post

Tags:

Nurse Caitlin Brassington was on her way home after a busy shift and stopped to pick up milk at the store. It was there that she ran into an acquaintance, who spotted her wearing scrubs from work for the first time.

She appeared shocked, and said she didn’t realize Caitlin was “just a nurse.”

In her 18-year career, Caitlin has heard this phrase many times to describe her work. But this time, it really got to her. And she couldn’t keep quiet when she opened up her Facebook page, rhetorically asking her friends and follower if she was indeed just a nurse.

In her now-viral post, she wrote, “I have helped babies into the world, many of whom needed assistance to take their first breath, and yet I am just a nurse.”

And Caitlin didn’t stop there.

She continued, “I have held patients hands and ensured their dignity while they take their last breath, and yet I am just a nurse. I have counseled grieving parents after the loss of a child, and yet I am just a nurse. I have performed CPR on patients and brought them back to life, and yet I am just a nurse.”

Caitlin painstakingly laid out her crucially important and sometimes lifesaving duties before making a mic-drop confession about what her job means to her.

“I have the experience and knowledge that has saved people’s lives,” she wrote. “So, if I am just a nurse, then I am ridiculously proud to be one.”
