Love Baking? Here’s How to Make Money Selling Cookies

When Andrea Greene started baking with her daughter on the weekends, she never thought it would turn into a career. Read on to see how she did it!      

“As a child, I loved baking with my grandmother. A pharmacy in her town was famous for their vanilla extract, and my mom would order gallons of it and use it in her recipes too. A few years ago, I was working long hours at a corporate job, so I started to bake cookies on the weekends to de-stress and spend time with my daughter. I’d give the treats as gifts to colleagues and friends, but when they started asking me to bake more, I knew I was onto something. So in 2010, I launched Connecticut Cookie Company. 

“I continued to work and run my business on the side until it became my full-time job in 2013. At night, I spent time contacting local media to tell them about my business. After a local TV station ran a story on us, orders started to flood in. And when I found a store-front that was convenient and had plenty of parking, I signed a lease and set up shop. 

“I started with basics like chocolate chip cookies, but I slowly added cake pops, cookie dough, and almond toffee ‘quick fix brittle,’ a recipe of my mom’s that I tweaked. I use the same vanilla extract I loved as a kid in every recipe, which adds a delicious hometown flavor. 

“I now make a full-time income with my business. I love this work because it’s so creative, and it makes people happy. Even better — my daughter works with me!” — Andrea Greene, 48, Fairfield, CT
