Cameron Nelson stopped into Chick-Fil-A one day, expecting to have a quick meal and not much more. But he ended up having an eye-opening experience right then and there in the checkout line.
The young man behind the cash register, named Jakeem, was working hard despite being in a neck brace and sling. And on top of being a great cashier, he also actually seemed happy to be there, despite his injuries.
So Nelson couldn't help but comment, as he explained in a public post to Chick-Fil-A's Facebook page.
"When I placed my order, I asked him what happened to him," Nelson wrote. "He said he was involved in a car accident days earlier, but was working because he needed the money and that he also wanted to use his money to feed the homeless for Christmas."
As amazing as Jakeem's work ethic and kind nature were, Nelson couldn't stand idly by and do nothing in response.
So Nelson continued, "I, along with some friends of mine, plan on making a donation to him to help him and his cause, and I wanted to know if your company would be willing to match what we contribute, or even sponsor his organization and provide all the food/drinks needed? His name is Jakeem Tyler."
The message has now been shared thousands of times. And what's more, a GoFundMe account has been set up for Jakeem and his cause.
It's already raised more than DOUBLE of its initial $2,500 goal--and counting!
