This Anti-Aging Oil Will Hydrate Your Skin and Hair Without Feeling Greasy

Tags:

For anyone prone to oily skin or hair, it can be difficult to find a balance between products that keep you hydrated without leaving you feeling greasier than before. Dry skin can also sometimes break out worse when you add a moisturizing product. Thankfully, beauty companies have recently tapped into marula oil, a plant-based solution that can moisturize and promote anti-aging without making you feel overly slick or sensitive.

You may have seen products with marula oil popping up, but aren’t sure if it’s something you should add to your daily beauty routine. Well, it’s important to note, this particular type of oil is incredibly lightweight, absorbs into skin quickly, and provides plenty of moisture. This makes it a perfect option for both those looking to keep their skin from drying out and breaking out, or those prone to oily skin who still need hydration and don’t want to feel extra-greasy.

Apart from its hydrating properties, it’s also packed with plenty of anti-aging factors like amino acids, L-arginine, and glutamic acid, all of which combat fine lines and wrinkles. A study from 2018 also listed marula oil’s abundance of fatty acids as a perk that can add more emollient and moisturizing benefits. It’s able to ward off signs of aging with its antioxidants (which also combat cancer-causing free radicals) in the form of hefty levels of vitamins E and C. This is especially great for improving sun damaged skin and keeping your skin as young and fresh as possible — again, all without feeling heavy on your face.

As for your hair, a study from 2015 recommended using this to nourish your strands from the root to the tip to hydrate and moisturize both grease-prone locks and to combat frizzy, brittle manes in the same way it helps both types of skin.

You can look for products like shampoo and lotions that include marula oil high on their list of ingredients, or you can invest in a bottle of it all on its own. InstaNaturals offers a highly-reviewed and budget friendly cold-pressed, unrefined marula oil ($15.97, Amazon). One happy customer wrote, “I was originally hesitant to use oils on my face but am always on the lookout for information and what grabbed me about this oil was the fact that it absorbed easily it was reported to help the absorption of other items that you put on your face. I’ve been using it for about a week now and my skin is definitely softer, no breakouts or negative effects.”

You can use a few drops of the product directly on your face after cleansing, plus on your hands and body whenever they feel dry. For hair, you can either apply it directly to your scalp and massage it in, or add a few drops to your shampoo to help with your hair and use the product as you normally would for a little extra moisture. Just be sure to shake it up in the bottle well and really get into your roots and ends of your strands.

Of course, like with any new product, you should test it on a patch of your skin before slathering it everywhere. If it works out for you, there’s no need to worry about feeling slippery or blistery while staying hydrated this winter!
