Meghan Markle’s Makeup Artist Reveals the Duchess’ Free Secret to Glowing Skin

Tags:

Let’s face it, Meghan Markle has a presence enviable to us all. What with her impeccable style, perfect brunette tresses, and skin as flawless (and poreless) as they come, it’d be tough not to wonder about her beauty routine.

And that’s why today is our lucky day — Meghan Markle’s wedding day makeup artist, Daniel Martin, has officially spilled the royal’s beauty secrets, and they’re surprisingly attainable to us normal folk.

Speaking to Fashionista, Martin (who is a great friend of Meghan’s) revealed the secret the duchess’ radiant, glowy skin. “So much of it is about hydration. She’s good about drinking lots of water and taking care of herself,” he said. We’ll just be refilling our water bottles now.

As for products, Martin revealed that Meghan is a sucker for a water-based moisturizer, including hyaluronic acid moisturizers. He also said he was ecstatic to be entrusted with the task of doing her wedding day makeup. “I wasn’t expecting it, and to be asked to attend was a whole other thing. It’s a blur,” he said.

When it came to her wedding day look, the main goal was about looking and feeling her best. “All I knew was that this is the kind of makeup she’s most comfortable in and that was that,” he said.

On the morning of the big day, Martin recalls a very calm atmosphere, saying he simply did what he had to do and hoped it would last for the next 12 hours. “My intention was to make her feel as beautiful and as comfortable as possible, because it was about them. It wasn’t about us.”

And while some were critical of her very simple look, Martin was confident it was better to stick to the “Less is more” mantra. “I had people coming after me like, ‘She didn’t have enough makeup. Where was her contour?’ She had all of that, but it was done in a way that was subtle so you didn’t notice it,” he said.

What’s more, he gained hefty praise from mothers of teenage daughters who applauded his minimal approach. “They were able to show their 14-year-old daughters that they didn’t have to go to school with so much makeup on,” he said.

Keeping things simple definitely rings true for the duchess, who has also revealed her favorite body lotion is from the drugstore. Yep, you read that right. Speaking to Beauty Banter before she married Prince Harry, Meghan said she uses the Nivea Q10 Firming Body Lotion ($14.58, Amazon) “religiously.” “It’s honestly my favorite lotion on the market, it’s so affordable, and makes my skin look and feel amazing. I would buy a case of this at a time if I could find it,” she said. Looks like we’re going to be heading to the local pharmacy ASAP — royally perfect skin awaits.
