Now You Can Find Out Which Movie Was #1 on Your Birthday

When Playback.fm released a feature that allows you to find out the #1 song on your birthday, we all had a great time searching our and our loved ones’ dates. But it left us wondering: Who was going to create an app that lets you look up the #1 movie on your birthday? The people behind the birthday song site must’ve read our minds because they’ve now added that functionality.

Check it out here. Select your birthday and prepare to be amazed.

Not only can you learn which blockbuster was big on your birthday but also how much the average movie theater ticket cost (a whopping 86 cents in 1963!). For extra fun, you can even watch the trailer for the film that grossed the most when you arrived on the scene and see moderately fascinating, though completely useless, stats, like what the #1 PG-13 movie was when you were of age to see it and how many times you could’ve watched your birthday flick on loop since you were born.

I gave it a try for my birthday and got: An Officer and a Gentleman, which I’m embarrassed to admit I’ve never seen. Plus, I learned that had I ventured out to the theater as a newborn, a ticket would’ve cost a mere $2.94. Much better than the $12 I often pay today!

I plugged in my husband’s birthday too and got a classic he and I (and everyone else) love: E.T. the Extra Terrestrial. But the #1 movie that had me laughing out loud at my desk was on my son’s birthday: Godzilla (a remake, of course). It’s extremely fitting because our little guy is in a stage in which he destroys everything in his path.
