The Original Gerber Baby Just Met the Newest Gerber Baby, And the Sweet Photo Is Melting Our Hearts

Tags:

The oldest and youngest Gerber babies just posed for the sweetest photo, proving cuteness knows no age. Ann Turner Cook, the original Gerber baby, and Lucas Warren, the first Gerber baby with Down syndrome, met for the first time in Florida recently, and they’re already fast friends.

While Lucas and his parents, Cortney and Jason, were vacationing in the Sunshine State, Gerber stepped in to set up a meeting for the two Gerber families. Cook, 91, lives in Tampa, which is near where the Warrens were visiting. Despite the age difference, the two hit it off.

“As soon as we walked into the room, (Cook) and Lucas immediately bonded,” the Warrens told Today.com. “Lucas walked right up to her, flashing his signature smile and waving, and we could tell he loved her right away.” Then, the one-year-old grabbed two cookies, one for him and one for his new friend.

Cook’s grandson, Chris Colin, tweeted a photo of the Gerber babies meeting, and we think it’s the perfect weekday pick-me-up. It’s pretty obvious why those ear-to-ear grins stole hearts not only at Gerber but also across the country.

“My grandmother was the Gerber baby,” Colin tweeted. “It was a funny bit of trivia, never made her rich or got us free strained peas or anything. But last week she got to meet the company’s newest spokesbaby, named Lucas. Pretty pretttty cute.”

In 1928, Cook became the first Gerber baby. At the time, she was only four months old. Dorothy Hope Smith, a friend of Cook’s parents, actually submitted the unfinished charcoal sketch of young Cook when Gerber announced it was searching for the face of their brand. By 1931, Gerber made Cook’s photo their trademark.

“Ann Turner Cook is truly a wonderful woman and pleasure to be around, and we couldn’t be more grateful that she took the time to meet with our family,” Lucas’ parents said.
