Harry and Meghan Confirm They’ve Got a New Pup, But Everyone Is Getting the Name Wrong
After enjoying a tour of Australia and the surrounding areas, Prince Harry and wife Meghan have returned to England. On October 3, 2018, the duke and duchess finally made a trip to their namesake, Sussex, where they were greeted by plenty of well-wishers — including an adorable pup who befriended Harry — and presented with several gifts. To the delight of royal fans everywhere, one of those gifts has helped shed some light on the pair’s own four-legged friends.
Rumors have been circulating for months that Harry and Meghan brought a new dog into their home, joining Meghan’s beloved beagle, Guy. Reports from outlets like Vanity Fair claimed that their new pooch was a male Labrador named Oz. Royal fans speculated the name was an homage to their then-upcoming Australian tour (“Oz” being a nickname for the country). It’s understandable that everyone got a bit excited by the potential news —but as it turns out, we were all apparently misinformed.
A clip from Harry and Meghan’s Sussex tour, however, confirms that those reports were at least sort of right. In the video below, you can see Harry and Meghan act a bit confused at first when handed what is supposed to be a portrait of their dog. Harry is quick with a joke, saying, “No one’s even seen our dog!” Meghan chimes in to add, “Oh, I know, and they keep getting her name wrong!” Considering that we know Guy (who they soon realize the portrait is actually portraying) is very much a good boy, we can only come to the conclusion that the royal pair are referring to the newest canine addition their home — and that she is in fact a good girl, who definitely isn’t named Oz. The couple are obviously not strangers to having plenty of unconfirmed stories about their lives swirling around them. It seems like they even get a kick out of how wrong those reports can be! Here’s hoping we get a chance to meet their actual new pup soon. We can only imagine she has a delightfully charming name, and we can’t wait to learn what it is.
