Red Hair, Blue Eyes: The Rarest Hair-Eye Combo Is Distinctly Beautiful
All eyes are beautiful eyes, but if you’re part of the majority of people who have brown eyes, you’ve probably dreamed of something more exotic. Maybe dark hair and gray eyes was the rare hair and eye color combination you wished for. While that’s a match we’d have to agree is pretty stunning, the title of rarest hair and eye color combination belongs to another group.
According to Medical Daily, blue-eyed redheads take the prize for rarest hair and eye color combination. Both genes for blue eyes and red hair are recessive, so if you can remember back to high school biology and Punnett Squares, you’ll know just how rare this combo is.

So, how common is the red hair and blue eyes combo? It’s estimated that only one to two percent of the world population — between 70 and 140 million people — has red hair. Blue eyes, on the other hand, are more common: About eight percent of the world population has blue eyes. That means 0.17 percent of the world’s population, or roughly 13 million people, have this hair and eye color combination. That said, genetic factors make people of certain races more likely than others to have red hair and blue eys, so the math is difficult to confirm.
While you rack your brains trying to think of redheads with blue eyes, we’ll go ahead and tell you that many of your favorite celebrities with red hair aren’t natural redheads! Amy Adams and Emma Stone — two Hollywood redheads — are naturally blonde. Mad Men star Jessica Chastain, however, is actually a bona fide redhead with blue eyes.

But don’t lament your brown hair just yet. Bees are apparently more attracted to people with red hair, so at least you don’t have to worry about that!
