Rory Feek Is Honoring Late Wife With Christmas Shows

Tags:

Rory Feek has mostly stayed out of the public eye since he lost his beloved wife and country music parter Joey to cancer in 2016. But more than a year later, the country star is ready to enter the spotlight again for a beautiful reason — to perform Christmas shows in honor of Joey.

This December, Rory will perform six Christmas shows in his own barn on his farm in Pottsville, Tennessee. These shows will be called “Once Upon a Christmas,” and they’ll include songs that he and Joey used to sing together.

This idea came to Rory after he performed a weekend of shows during the summer to benefit the Music Health Alliance. Rory explained his decision to return to the stage during the Christmas season in an emotional post on his blog, This Life I Live.

“I have had some time to think and pray and talk with family about it, and I am ready to open the doors of the barn up wide and let some light in,” Rory wrote. “To do more of what I’m supposed to be doing. More of what Joey would want me to do.”

In the time that he’s spent offstage, he’s dedicated himself to raising the couple’s daughter Indiana. And it sounds like their little girl gave Rory even more reason to get back to doing what he loves — specifically around the holidays.

“Christmas has always been my favorite time of the year and this will be the first year that Indiana is old enough to begin to understand who Santa Claus is and what Christmas means, so it will be a very special one for us,” he wrote. “I think having the shows here at the farm will make this holiday season even more meaningful.”

If you’re interested in seeing the show, tickets are on sale now. We’re sure there won’t be a dry eye in the room!
