Your Favorite Soap Opera Stars Are Still Keeping Busy

Susan Lucci, All My Children

Actress Susan Lucci was only 24 years old when she began her role as Erica Kane on the hit ABC soap opera All My Children, a character that TV Guide called "the most famous soap-opera character in the history of daytime TV." In 2011, the show finally ended after a 41-year run.

Since then, the 70-year-old (if you can believe it) has continued acting, appearing on TV shows like Hot in Cleveland, Deadly Affairs, and Devious Maids.

She became a grandmother in 2006 when her only child — Liza Huber — gave birth to her first child, a boy named Royce Alexander. Since then, Lucci has become a grandmother to three more little ones.

Kathryn Leigh Scott, Dark Shadows

Born Marlene Kathryn Kringstad, Kathryn Leigh Scott is best known for her role on the American gothic soap opera Dark Shadows. She played several characters on the show including Maggie Collins, Maggie Evans, Josette du Pres, Rachel Drummond, and Kitty Soames. She left the show in 1970 shortly before it ended in April of 1971.

She later appeared in shows like Dial M for Murder, Hawaii Five-O, and Magnum P.I. Scott has continued to pick up small roles and even reunited with members of the original Dark Shadows cast in 2013 when the show was turned into a feature film staring Johnny Depp.

In 1986, Scott founded the Pomegranate Press through which she publishes her books. At 74, she continues to work as both a writer and an actress.

Rick Springfield, General Hospital

Australian singer and songwriter Rick Springfield became an instant heartthrob when he began his role as Dr. Noah Drake on ABC's General Hospital in 1981. Around the same time, Springfield's album Working Class Dog, which featured the smash hit "Jessie's Girl," took off — something neither he nor his manager had expected. As a result, Springfield simultaneously began touring with his band, and he ultimately left the soap in 1983.

In 2013, the 68-year-old returned to GH, reprising his original role. In addition to maintaining a decades-long music career, Springfield has appeared on shows like Supernatural and American Horror Story.

Fun fact: Did you know that Rick Springfield's real name is actually Richard Lewis Springthorpe? That definitely doesn't have the same ring to it.

Kim Zimmer, One Life to Live & Guiding Light

Kim Zimmer is best known for her roles as Echo DiSavoy on ABC's One Life to Live and as Reva Shayne on CBS' Guiding Light. She won four Daytime Emmy Awards for her work on the latter.

In addition to her two stints on both OLTL and GL, Zimmer continued to act in movies and TV shows. The 62-year-old's most recent work was on the 2013 film 23 Blast, a sports drama film about a boy who overcomes losing his sight to continue playing football.

Zimmer shares three children — Rachel, Max, and Jake — with her husband A.C. Weary. Jake followed in his mom's footsteps, appearing on As the World Turns as well as Law and Order: SVU.

Elizabeth Hubbard, The Doctors & As the World Turns

In 1964, Elizabeth Hubbard created and starred in her role as Dr. Althea Davis on NBC's The Doctors. She continued the role until 1969 when she left for a career in Hollywood. She would eventually return for two more stints, staying until the show was cancelled in 1982.

In 1984, she joined the cast of As the World Turns, playing businesswoman Lucinda Walsh. She was nominated for nine Daytime Emmys and remained on the show on and off until it ended in 2010. Today, the 83-year-old continues to act on the web series drama Anacostia.
