Deer aren't known to stick around to see what happens when humans come near. But one tiny tot either piqued this fawn's curiosity or was too sweet-looking to be considered a threat because the deer let the child get VERY close.
At first, the deer is skittish when the little lady, whose name is Kate and is reportedly 15 months old, walks over. Then, after some sizing up, the deer stays still long enough for Kate to pet its fur. Later in the video, the deer seems to be playing a game of chase with its pretty playmate. But when Kate, who's so young, she's still unsteady on her feet, starts to walk away, you can sense that the fawn is disappointed. The deer tentatively follows her, perhaps wishing she'd turn her attention to the gentle creature again.
The toddler's mom, Ann Maree, was the one to capture the adorable encounter on video. She posted the video to her local Omaha news station's website, saying, "Our neighbor pointed out the fawn to us; it was in the backyard...After about 15 minutes of back and forth play, the fawn decided it was ok for my daughter to approach it. It was so amazing, even the ice cream man stopped to watch their interaction."
