Selfless Stranger Consoles Crying Toddler During Meltdown so Mom Can Shop

Tags:

Shopping with kids can be pretty tough, especially if they’re younger — they don’t call it the “terrible twos” for nothing! What’s a parent or grandparent to do when both little ones decide to throw a fit at the exact same time?

Thankfully, when it happened to Texas mom-of-two Rebecca Paterson while she was on her weekly Target run, she received unexpected but much-needed help from a kind stranger. During the shopping trip, Paterson’s two-year-old son and her two-month-old son both began screaming and throwing their hands in the air at the same time. Feeling defeated, Paterson started getting ready to leave the store when suddenly another Target shopper — and fellow mom — named Tiffany Jones-Guillory approached her.

Jones-Guillory offered to walk with and talk to Paterson’s children, Aiden and Jacob, so the frazzled mom could get what little bit of shopping she had left done. The kind stranger took the toddler in her arms and entertained him by showing him photos of her own children. As Jones-Guillory talked and Paterson shopped, Jacob’s temper tantrum disappeared.

Once Paterson was finished grabbing her bread, milk, and eggs, she caught Jones-Guillory’s sweet deed in a photo, which she later shared in a private Facebook group called “Moms of Pearland.” Coincidentally, both Jones-Guillory and Paterson are members.

“She walked with me while I got the essentials needed for the day and kept hold of my toddler while he calmed down,” Paterson shared in the now-viral Facebook post. “She saved me today moms!!! I am so sleep deprived and was running on empty. A little kindness and understanding goes a long way.”

Paterson said she plans to pay Jones-Guillory’s kindness forward the next time she’s given the opportunity and asked other moms in the group to do the same. Wouldn’t the world be a much better place if everyone took one minute to step up and lend a helping hand? We’re so happy Jones-Guillory was there to help Paterson collect herself. Being a mom is tough, but sometimes even the smallest gesture can make a world of difference.

Motherhood can be rough, but all of the sweet moments make it more than worth it. Watch the video below for a few fridge-worthy quotes about motherhood:
