There are some foods that just tend to be left in childhood--pudding, fruit punch, fish sticks--but applesauce shouldn’t be one of them. This versatile food can make cakes moist and take pork chops to the next level--not to mention being delicious in its own right. But instead of heading to the supermarket, turn to your own stove this year to make the irresistible fall food in no time.
All you need is three easy steps--and, no, peeling the apples is not one of them. Simply core and chop your favorite apples before adding them to a pot with about one inch of water. Let them cook at medium until they’re soft, or for about 15 minutes. Don’t worry about draining it; this is the no-stress way to make applesauce. Grab your immersion blender and process everything in the pot until it reaches your favorite consistency (we’re fans of a little chunky).
This plain applesauce can be used in baking and plating, or you can dress it up with warm spices like cinnamon and allspice for snacking. Add sugar if you want, although it’s certainly not required. The sweet part is, it’s really that easy.
