Dad-to-be Daniel Hardinges called the hospital as soon as his wife Sue's water broke at 4:20 a.m. But the hospital told the couple to wait at home until 9 a.m. But this baby wasn't waiting.
After 15 minutes, Daniel had a hunch that something wasn't normal about his wife's contractions. But imagine his shock when he took a look under his wife's pants and saw the baby's head starting to peak out! Though he called the emergency number as quickly as he could, he knew that the whole baby would be out in a matter of minutes.
Despite not having any medical training, Daniel was able to deliver his newborn baby right there over the bathroom sink. When the paramedics and midwife finally turned up, he was on his knees holding the baby, all wrapped up, and his wife was bent over the sink not able to move.
Daniel said, "Everybody who came in—the paramedics and the midwife—just couldn't believe it."
Amazingly, the child was perfectly healthy and doing well. And Daniel and Sue are now proud parents of their little bundle of joy, Sophie.
