Charlotte, NC—A year ago, Hyong Yi was so overwhelmed with grief he was barely able to get out of bed. His wife of 15 years, Catherine, had recently died after battling ovarian cancer.
As the one year anniversary of Catherine's death approached, Hyong decided to do something incredible to honor his wife. In the weeks leading up to the anniversary he wrote 100 love notes sharing the love story he and his wife shared. On Friday he passed them out in Charlotte with their children.
“My hope is that as we share these love notes with random people on the sidewalk, that they’ll take a moment to reflect on the love in their life,” Yi said. “What I wouldn’t give to have one more minute – even a minute – to talk, to hold hands. I want people to take a minute to reflect on that and share a note with somebody they love.”
Strangers who received the notes on the street were moved to tears.
"The most difficult, but rewarding, part of the past year has been to try and define a life worthy of Catherine, but without Catherine," Yi said. "What is a life well lived? My conclusion a life filled with love. This, Catherine taught me."
