The Big Wheel Makes Big Payouts on Record-Breaking ‘The Price Is Right’

Tags:

This season marks Drew Carey’s 10th as the host of the popular game show The Price Is Right,, but that’s not the only reason a recent episode was one for the record books. If you weren’t tuned in to watch history in the making, this is what went down.

In honor of Carey’s decade-long hosting job, any contestant who landed on a $1 during The Big Wheel segment would instantly get $10,000. And wouldn’t you know it, the first contestant, Wilbert, spins a combined $1 and wins $10,000. Then Charlotte, the second contestant, steps up, and what does she spin? A $1, of course! At the point, the fans are going crazy, sso when third contestant Zacharia’s combined spins total $1, the crowd erupts.

“Oh my goodness! What is happening?” Carey exclaims. Frankly, his guess is as good as ours. Maybe it’s karma? One thing is for sure though, whatever freakishly good luck these three contestants have didn’t end after their first spin.

Carey offers all three a bonus spin and, wouldn’t you know it, Wilbert and Charlotte both spin and land on $1 again, earning themselves a cool $25,000 each. At this point, the show has given away $80,000 in just one segment — and we’re trying to scrape our jaws off the floor. Then poor Zacaraia narrowly misses the $1 sign on his spin (but he still has that $10,000 from the first spin, so it’s a little hard to feel bad for him after his luck dried up).

A CBS representative confirmed that this was the most money ever won on a segment of The Big Wheel.

In addition to the over-the-top enthusiasm from the contestants — although we’d probably be doing cartwheels across the stage if we had just won $35,000 — Twitter users weighed in with hilariously appropriate tweets.

While we don’t have hundred-dollar bills to use as tissues for our tears, we can still dream about the day we spin $1.
