Not every mom gets to meet her twin newborns within a short timespan, but they pretty much all deliver their duos within the same year. Not this new mother, though! So, how is it possible that a set of twins born within a few minutes of each other were born in different years?

Maribel Valencia was expecting to give birth to her twins at the end of January 2016, but when a doctor noticed one of them was in breech position, Valencia was forced to go into labor on New Year's Eve.
Valencia gave birth to two healthy babies: a girl and a boy. Jaelyn, born on New Year's Eve at 11:59 p.m., and Luis Jr., born on New Year's Day at 12:01 a.m., certainly have one of the most unique birth stories we've ever heard! According to NBC San Diego, Luis Valencia, father of the newborn twins, said, “[Maribel] really wanted to have the babies on the same birthday because you know later on in the years, they're going to have a little confrontation and be like, 'my birthday came first,' so it means two birthday parties, back to back.”
What a way to ring in the New Year: holding a pair of healthy babies surrounded by loved ones!
