Valpak Envelopes to Include $100 Check

Easter may be just around the corner, but there’s a chance you’ll be able to find some hidden cash well before the egg hunt starts. You know those lovely little envelopes chock full of coupons sent by Valpak each month? In honor of its 50th anniversary this year, the Florida-based company said it’s tucking $100 checks inside random envelopes. Don’t worry, it’s not a scam — Valpak made the official announcement earlier this week.

“They are randomly chosen,” Patti Neeley, the president of Valpak of Charlotte, said in a press release. “We have no clue geographically where they are sent, but you have one in 50,000 homes chance to win a check.”

If you’re ready to score a little bit of extra cash on top of those helpful monthly coupons, pay attention to what’s coming in the mail. If there’s a specially-marked navy blue Valpak envelope that reads, “Look inside, could be $100 in this envelope,” in bright yellow, don’t throw it out; you might be one of the company’s lucky winners! And if you find the words “Congratulations $100 Instant Winner” printed on a Valpak-blue insert, then you’ve won.

What’s even better is that Valpak is ensuring everyone gets a fair chance at winning the cash prize. Between now and December, Valpak will be sending out check-filled envelopes every month to all 150 Valpak markets — a total of 39 million envelopes per month — with no purchase necessary and no strings attached. Each check will be made out to “Cash” (though winners in Canada will receive a voucher to exchange for $100).

Several people have received a winning envelope already and have shared their excitement on Facebook and Twitter.

“This is crazy,” Valpak customer Liana Brooke wrote on Twitter. “I’m 1 in 50 thousand. Thank you Valpak! This is the best way to end not the best week. Here’s to opening your Valpak each month and using their coupons.”

This isn’t the first time Valpak has decided to give such a generous gift to its consumers. In fact, the company has been handing out $100 checks since 1988, but only in select markets. This year, the company expanded the program to be offered in all Valpak markets, all at the same time.
