Most women have sat under the massive hair dryers at a salon that make us feel a bit like a space cadet while we’re waiting on our locks to set. I recently decided to dye my hair quite a few shades lighter and found myself sitting beneath what I can only describe as what appeared to be two warm, rotating flying saucers while the dye did its job. Just imagine how silly I looked with tin foil in my hair and mini-UFO-looking contraptions swirling around my head! 

Of course, beauty technology from the past could look even more wild as hairdressers and inventors worked to find new ways to style ‘dos more efficiently. For example, you might remember covering your head with a large plastic bag-type hair dryer to get your perfect wavy curls back in the day. Although it’s nice to know our at-home options have become much less clunky over the years, it’s still fun to look back at what women could find in their regular salons throughout the 1920s, ’30s, and ‘40s.
