Newlyweds Embarrassed by Wedding Reception Want a Full Refund
This wedding story is one for the books–checkbooks, that is. Newlyweds Mia and JR Bennett got hitched back in August. And on the happiest day of their life, the lovebirds ended up feeling humiliated by their own wedding reception.
They paid $3,800 for 32 people to wine and dine at Shorelight Inn/the Inn at Benicia Bay after the ceremony. And the California couple feel what they got for that money was unacceptable.
Mia pointed out that not only were the glasses, plates, and flatware all plastic, the food was also subpar for the price they paid.
“Cold, store-bought food from Costco,” Mia said.
Though the contract did not give a specific menu, it did state that the guests would eat “heavy hors d’oeuvres.” Instead, the couple claims they were served cold meatballs, hummus, cheese cubes, and vegetables.
In response, an attorney for the inn had this to say to NBCBayArea.com: “The Inn at Benicia Bay fully performed its contractual obligations.” The attorney also added that the reviews that the Bennetts had posted on social media included “false and misleading accusations.”
But the couple is standing by their claims. Now, they’re hoping American Express can sort it out, since that’s how they paid for it.
“A full refund is fair because you can’t redo it,” Mia said. “That was our one wedding reception.”
