‘Turkey on the Table’ Is the Best New Thanksgiving Tradition to Share Gratitude

Tags:

This Thanksgiving, we plan on having two birds on Turkey Day, but only one of them will be cooked. Meet Turkey on the Table: a family-friendly holiday activity that will help you better appreciate and be grateful for all the blessings you have.

April George and Kerry Manus, the two moms behind Turkey on the Table, wanted to instill a sense of gratitude in their little ones. So in 2015, they came up with a pretty simple idea: In the days leading up to Thanksgiving, members of the family would write down things they’re thankful for on the turkey’s feathers. Then, on the big day — over real turkey and stuffing — families can remember all the things for which they’re grateful. “Our goal was to turn ‘thankfulness’ into an activity, focusing on the things they have, and not the things they don’t,” George and Manus wrote on their website.

Each year, families can purchase another pack of turkey feathers and start the process all over again. But don’t throw away your old feathers! Hold on to these memories and treasure them once your kids start cooking own Thanksgiving dinners. There’s even a Santa hat available for purchase, so you and your family can bring Turkey on the Table into the Christmas season.

Turkey on the Table has partnered with Feeding America, a nonprofit that aims to bring food to millions of Americans across the country, and for every faux bird purchased, 10 meals are donated to someone in need. Per Delish, Turkey on the Table sales have led to 435,000 donated meals!

You can also buy special Feeding America feathers on the Turkey on the Table online store. If you order a 25-pack of feathers and a bird, the company will donate an additional 15 meals — that’s 25 total! — to Feeding America.

How amazing! To purchase a bird, head over to the Turkey on the Table website or take advantage of Prime shipping by ordering through Amazon. Your stuffing will taste crispier and your mashed potatoes fluffier knowing that you’re helping out a family in need.
