Beauty Fans Love This ‘Lash Shield’ for Mascara — But Would You Use It?

No matter how carefully you apply mascara or how steady your hand might be, you’ve probably experienced the dreaded smudge of makeup on your skin. Our lashes just seem to really love rebelling against us. The only thing worse than trying to wipe away a clump of mascara (only to have it smear even more on your skin) is the painful accidental eye-poke with the wand. Although this product by Whoosh Beauty can’t help with protecting your actual eye, it can ward off the annoying smudges and smears.

The lash shield is sold along with the company’s Flex and Curl mascara ($14, Ulta), which features a wand that can adjust from straight to curled positions. According to the product’s description, “the lash shield makes mascara application even easier — keeping your lids and brow bone free from mascara messes.”

It might seem like an unnecessary tool for such a small issue, but plenty of reviews back up the company’s claims. A customer from Ulta wrote, “I love the lash shield. It allows me to wiggle the mascara right on the lashline to give lift and color without ruining my eyeshadow. It only took a few times of experimenting to be able to hold it properly, it’s now easy and routine.” Across the pond, the British Beauty Council raved on Instagram about how much they love the innovative shield, saying their “hearts leapt” when they first spotted it.

Another review from Ulta loved the shield, but wasn’t as impressed by the mascara that came with it. Despite being underwhelmed by the “OK” mascara, she described the shield as a must-have that helps her save time while getting ready every day. Of course, there’s only one way to tell if you’ll like the product just as much as the reviews: Trying it out for yourself! Or if you’d rather stick to your tried and true makeup methods, that’s fine, too. Whatever makes you feel the most beautiful is all that matters.
