We have some bad news: We’ve ALL been carving pumpkins wrong for years! Unless you paint your pumpkin without cutting into it--you sneaky genius, you--you probably carve a circle around the top stem of the pumpkin. What awaits you when you get that done? Ten minutes of scraping and scooping to hollow out the inside.
Save yourself time and lots of scooping with this tiny tweak in your technique from Happy Hooligans. Cut the circle out of the bottom of your pumpkin instead of the top. Doing so will clean out most of the pumpkin without the arm workout of all that scraping. The seeds attach to the bottom; removing this piece pulls most of them out in one movement. Some light scooping will clear the rest out in seconds. All you do is throw away the bottom panel.
It gets better. Your pumpkin will now sit more steadily on your porch, and you don’t have to struggle to carve out a flat surface for your candle. The candle can also rest solidly on your porch, and you simply place your pumpkin over it. If you ask us, that’s one Halloween trick that’s an absolute treat.
