Volunteers Needed to Donate Wreaths to Honor Fallen Soldiers

The bad news is that there's a shortage of wreaths to honor our fallen soldiers at at Arlington National Cemetery this year. The good news is that you — yes, you! — can help.

For 25 years, Wreaths Across America, a non-profit organization, has taken on the honorable task of placing a wreath on every single tombstone of the veterans buried in the cemetery. Unfortunately, this year, they're short more than 15,000 wreaths.

Granted, many wreaths have already been donated to the organization (there are about 400,000 veterans laid to rest in Arlington), but seeing as Wreaths Across America Day is quickly approaching on December 16, the group is hoping to fulfill their mission on time.

Bre Kingsbury, of Wreaths Across America, called its mission "a celebration of life" on Fox News and explained the importance of the ceremony for fallen soldiers' families and friends.

“When we walk the rows of Arlington Cemetery, they’re not necessarily well-known names,” Kingsbury said. “You know, movies haven’t been made about their lives, books haven’t been written. These are just hardworking, honest Americans that decided to step up and do something that was bigger than themselves.”

Kingsbury added that since these Americans made the "ultimate sacrifice," it's other Americans' duty to make sure their legacy is honored and respected.

That's where you come in: It's actually super easy to make this gesture of honor and respect for these veterans. It only costs $15 to donate a wreath, and all you have to do is visit WreathsAcrossAmerica.com to do so. There are also other volunteer opportunities available on the site.

It's a small price to pay for those who have fought for our freedom, after all!
