In a heartfelt Facebook post, mom Amy Verder shared a special thing she and her daughter have started doing--and now, the idea is catching on in a major way.
The mom-daughter duo is keeping their car stocked with "blessing bags"--plastic bags that contain toiletries and essentials that might come in handy to a person in need, such as warm socks, a toothbrush, and snacks.
Hoping to encourage others to do the same, Verder writes in her post, "You can make these up with items from the Dollar Tree such as gloves, thermal socks, beef sticks, crackers, candy bars, toothpaste, toothbrush, wipes, deodorant, snacks and other items that may help someone who is homeless or in a bad way. It is just a thoughtful, inspiring thing to do."
We love this idea, especially during the winter, when people who don't have safe and comfortable places to go home to at night may be in dire need of a little extra help from a kind stranger. And people on Facebook agree, as the post has now been shared more than 140,000 times.
After all, as Verder notes, "Random acts of kindness take very little to change the life of just one person."
