Grandpa Does His Wife’s Hair for a Sweet Reason

Tags:

An elderly couple has gone viral for taking an adorable photo together. While the pic itself is cute all on its own, it’s really the backstory behind it that’s made the Internet fall head over heels for them.

At first glance, it looks like any other grandma and grandpa taking a selfie together, having a good chuckle over what kids these days are doing in the age of sharing snapshots on social media. But when you get a good look at the grandfather, you’ll see he’s touching his wife’s hair.

Or more specifically, he’s styling his wife’s hair—including curlers and all.

As their granddaughter Amy Pennington explained on Twitter, “My grandma had surgery on her wrist and couldn’t do her own hair, so my grandpa did it for her.”

She shared two images of the lovebirds doing just that on her Twitter page, and added on the simplest yet most poignant commentary of the moment: “Cuteness overload.”

We really couldn’t agree more with Amy’s words.

It’s not every day you see photographic evidence of love like this, where the man is willing to set aside his pride to do something girly to help his wife. There’s something truly special about the gentle way he looks at her, being careful to do her hair just how she likes while she is unable to do so for herself.

And judging by Twitter’s overwhelming response of more than 220,000 likes and more than 103,000 retweets, we’re guessing many people agree with that sentiment.
