Prince Harry Has Overcome Another Huge Obstacle, Proving He’s Determined to Marry Meghan Markle

Good news for the smitten Prince Harry. Contrary to popular belief, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could potentially tie the knot at Westminster Abbey.

Meghan’s status as a divorceé was seen as an impediment to a possible marriage within the walls of the historic English church, but according to a spokesman for the Abbey, the two could very much say their “I dos” there.

“The Abbey follows the General Synod Ruling of 2002,” he affirmed. “Since then it has been possible for divorced people to be married in the Church of England.”

According to the 2002 ruling, the “decision as to whether or not to solemnize such a marriage in church after divorce rests with the minister.” And based on the Abbey’s spokesman, it doesn’t seem like the couple will have any trouble securing his permission.

Westminster Abbey is famously the location of not only Queen Elizabeth‘s marriage ceremony, but also Kate Middleton’s wedding. While Camilla, possibly the most well-known divorceé currently in the royal family, and Prince Charles decided to have a civil ceremony at Windsor Guildhall for their 2005 nuptials, Prince Harry and Meghan very well could walk down the Westminster Abbey aisle.

The Abbey’s statement comes on the heels of reports that Prince Harry had obtained approval from his grandmother, the Queen, to propose to Meghan. Per the Royal Marriages Act of 1772, Harry needed his grandmother’s blessing in order to get down on one knee.

“The way it’s going, the engagement will probably happen this year,” a source reportedly told Star magazine. “Harry has got approval from the Queen to propose to Meghan, he’s already had those conversations with Her Majesty. An engagement is imminent.”

In October the two are set to travel to Africa, and some believe this is where Harry will pop the question. After his mother’s tragic death, Prince Harry spent a lot of time healing in Africa, so the continent holds a special place in his heart. Prince William also famously proposed to Kate on a trip to Kenya.

So many signs point to a proposal very soon! We’ve certainly got our fingers crossed.
